Making Online Learning Fun as Offline

Context

While taking an online course during pandemic, I realized how fun it was when we used to learn with our friends and discuss problems with our teachers. That’s when I thought about this platform.

Challenges

The target users are the students who want to pursue any type of professional course but like studying offline. Online education is a great way to have students continue their studies even during the pandemic but they are just not engaged and happy to study.

  • 1. Online learning is not as exciting as offline learning.
  • 2. Focus on gaining certification without actual knowledge.

The Process

01 User Research

Main Question

Experience while taking courses online

The interview data showed that most of the students were bored after some lectures and they would just stop taking it further because they were studying alone and there was no fun and motivation to complete the course.

  • 20 Students Contacted
  • Mode: Existing short content platforms like Facebook & Instagram
  • I don't want to study online as I miss my friends. In school we used to study together and discuss problems and solutions with each other. That was fun.
  • I want offline classes, please.
  • I am so bored. There is no fun. Its like I am watching some boring random video which makes me sleepy.
  • If I don't care if I don't pass the exam. I am just going to wait till the schools are open because I hate it.
  • Can we add friends to the online classes? It was fun learning with them. School was never so boring and I hate these new normals.

  • We don’t think we can complete the course. We just need a certificate.
  • We are not at all motivated to complete the course and learn something. Everything is boring.

02 Goal, Synthesis & Empathy Map

To drive engagement, we first need to have a platform where students can add their friends and study with them.

  • They also need to have an option to communicate within the class to solve each other’s doubts and have some fun.
  • Post user interviews, our synthesis of users’ pain points revealed that the major issue was the lack of interaction between users.
  • So, I led a brainstorming session internally with business stakeholders and engineers to ideate around our personas and challenges.
  • To add a Video Conferencing web app inside the application to let users interact with each other and have fun while studying to give feelings of offline classes.
